Guys get over it. Its not because of Catholic church a sequel was made it was because the movie sucked. They ruined the novel by cutting shit, and put frozen Nicole Kidman in the lead. If the Catholic protests stopped everything then how was the Da Vinci Code a hit?

It really annoys me how they keep calling the alethiometer the 'golden compass'. Call it what it is and stop trying to justify the name of the movie, which should be 'Northern Lights' anyway. Bloody americans. (I should say I don't have anything against americans, I just don't see why they had to change the name of the book)

I wasn't trying to say that bronies call themselves furries, I was listing My Little Pony as an example of anthropomorphic animals which is true. Some furries are also bronies and vice versa. They are not the same but they do intersect a lot.

My mother used to be a Atheist. However I have to say this. It's usually in ones best interest not to generalize any title a person gives themselves. Just as I try to avoid assuming all Christians act a specific way based on whom I've met. As for the movie having a atheist message well...I wouldn't say so. The movie is relying on terms such as demons, witches and dust which seems almost magical therefore I'd say that wasn't truly the aim of the movie.

I wouldn't say My Little Pony fans usually consider themselves furries. Most even if they use some of the traditional fursuit and so forth still call themselves bronies.

At last the majority. I'd categorize them as different things, but that's just me.

Well no that's not entirely true. The Catholic church intervened in the post-production of the film. You'd be surprised how much a final cut of a film can change everything. Star Wars for example...

Actually, it is. Phillip Pullman said so, that's why the main antagonists of the series are "The Church". They changed it to the Magisterium in the movie so they wouldn't offend religious people.
