Amy Irving plays Sue who lets her boyfriend Tommy (William Katt) take Carrie (Sissy Spacek) to prom. Chris (Nancy Allen) and Billy (John Travolta) have different ideas. Ms. Collins (Betty Buckley) gets the wrong idea when she notices Sue.

This movie is flat out wonderful. All the acting is done perfectly, especially Sissy Spacek and Amy Irving. It's such a haunting tale, Stephen King knows how to take our darkest fears, like being humiliated in public, and taking them to such an outstanding level of terror.

@415resident - I always believed that Miss Collins thought Sue had second thoughts about Tommy taking Carrie to the prom and was upset to see them crowned king & queen and that she was trying to do something to ruin that moment for them (especially when they kissed, though Sue's reaction was because she realized what was about to happen to Carrie, not the kiss). Even in the book, Miss Collins (though less sympathetic than in the film) wasn't out to embarrass Carrie (she even lives in the book).
