One of the things that I really like about Ableton Live 8 is the ability to group tracks. Track groups enable you to mix several tracks at the same time: they share a volume fader, they share an effects chain and they can be collapsed. Each track within the group still has its own effects chain, its own fader and its own panning--so there appears to be no real loss. Weirdly enough, though, Ableton appears to lack the ability to draw automation for a track group in the arrangement view. Luckily, I found the answer to this problem and I outline it step by step in this tutorial.
thnx a lot, i never new it was possible!!!!! now i will use grouptrack a lot more :}, greetz bensz

haha skatechatham, you are right! this is Anthony (the poster) and I just reailzed this. Definitely not the first time that I made an overly complicated workaround for something simple, though!

There must be something wrong with your ableton, I can click the divider line right below "3 Group" and drag the track bigger to see volume settings/IO etc and automations. Maybe you need to activate your IO and M buttons at the right side of the screen. The M is essential anyways to set volumes on the fly.
