Johnny's clip was shown on 20/20 Oct 11,2007!!! 20/20 contacted us last week about this story. They were on a tight time line and decided to go with people closer to their location in New York ( I think it's just that other little ones were more impressive). But anyway. I had a long conversation with the reporter and I was telling him the same thing that these university professionals were saying. I think Johnny just has amazing memory capabilities along with these other kids. They spend time playing with things like maps and books like us as opposed to cartoons and video games and that's what it comes down to. Children learn hundreds of songs so why not learn crazy stats. Johnny isn't a genius by definition but he did learn the preamble. I taught him the song from "School House Rock" in 10 minutes and now he sings it to bed. I'd like to get his IQ tested and maybe find other ways of nurturing his intelligence. It also wouldn't hurt to get him into commercials. ;) Ehhhh - we'll see. I just posted another clip of him writing his own name. Impressive - I don't know but it's pretty cute.
I'm sorry but where I'm from (the united states) we learn to read in kindergarden or 1st grade... If your physcotic mother wants to teach you how to read when your 2 then so be it, but its not my fault that your have nothing to learn when you get to kindergarden. What bothers me about your first commment is that you said "all kids SHOULD be reading by the time they are 4" I dont know what kind of world you live in, but no kid needs to know how to read when they are 4 years old.

Is that how you were raised? I feel sorry for the way they raised you. That is really wrong. Sounds like they gave you a terrible childhood. Peace be with you. My sis was reading at 2 I was reading at 5, my child by the start of 4. I gave her a paperback Dick & Jane we read the first mini chapter together she read all the rest on her own for the whole series I think there are 12 in the series. A simple high five at the end of every mini chapter. It was so simple a caveman could do it.

locking up the child all day and giving it a cookie if it reads 5 words or smacking it with a belt when it screws up? Yeah sounds normal to me.

Do you want to know the secret? Surprise Surprise there is no secret. Learning is fun for 3 & 4 year olds. Now if you threw your kids into the daycare system that is the reason your kids cannot read.

kids should be reading by the time they are 4. That is bull crap but whatever

Thank you for being honest about the the word/meaning of genius. Some other parents are just trying to exploit their normal kids. Kids should be reading on their own by their 4th birthday.
