This is the view of the Pleasant Grove, AL Tornado (April 27,2011) from my front porch. The super excited woman is the mother of a boy we babysit. Their home was completely destroyed by this tornado, but because they were at my house a mile away, they were OK. Had I know what I was videoing, I'm not sure I would have stayed out there.
Here's a panoramic picture I did...www.corcoranp.com/pleasantgrovepan.jpg I believe 11th Ct is the right...

  • I understand that......that was one of the first video's I saw of the tornado....I wasn't able to see anything before that. There was alot of emotion and I knew what I had been hit by, but seeing it brought a whole lot of emotions back. That was why I did not make overly mean statements towards her. I understand emotion fairly well, I am a combat veteran and even combat did not scare me as bad as this event. My comments were not intended to degrade the woman.

  • @HeatNomad I appreciate your thoughts, and I am deeply sorry for your loss. I understand loss, my mother overdosed on prescription drugs in 2008 and for the first few weeks, I couldn't stand the sight of drug bottles. I struggled whether to post this video with the audio, and when I decided to do it, I thought people could understand her panic. Still...if people are more hurt by this then appreciative, the right thing to do is remove it. Let me know if I can do anything to help you.

  • It wasn't so "awsome" when you are in the basement being sucked up against the stair case with a bear hug on your 8, 6, and 4 year old sons.....or maybe not so "awsome" when your the husband that has your wife sucked out of the house only to find her dead in the yard.....the footage was good, could have done without the exciement when I lost a house two cars and a harley.....I walked out with the 3 things that mattered most...my boys. People were dying while you were watching...

  • @HeatNomad We have the benefit of hindsight, in the moment, we did not. The woman in my video, who is in a panic, lost her home...completely gone...lost everything. The day after the tornado, she came back and said exactly what you have..."it wasn't so "awesome"". I'm glad you walked out with your children, if you need any assistance, I'm in constant contact with the mayor's office in Pleasant Grove, private message me and I can connect you up...

  • You were close enough to it that you should have been taking shelter in a basement, or if you didn't have one, a small interior room like a hallway, closet or bathroom away from windows.

  • lady we dont see and i hear it but dont hear it

  • I live here in Pleasant Grove and I met the lady in the background @ First Baptist in Pleasant Grove at dinner. We sat at the table with them and she told me about this video. Some people react to things differently. We were in our storm shelter here on 13th Avenue and we heard the whole thing. My kids were terrified and All my husband and I could is pray. The lady in the background "did loose everything and I will continue to pray for her husband and her son. God Bless, Abigail.

  • @corcoranp you dont know what time it hit fultondale do you when it crossed 65??

  • I know you wouldn't have been happy in the video had you known how severe it was so there is no need to apologize. My family lost their home down the road from where this was filmed. 1000 8th Avenue, Pleasant Grove. Now that things have settled a tiny bit I decided to watch some videos. Thanks for posting.

  • HI. Glad you are ok, neighbor. My home is fine here, missed it by 3 blocks. Brothers house is lost on 11th Ct. Family was tucked in a block shelter built in basement. I see the damage daily and will for years. I wanted to see if any brave person recorded the video. And Ive viewed this video I think the day of the storm. It looked like it came toward the camera; it looked bad and Im so very sorry. Now I see it did destroy your home and I hate it. from- Neighbor in Longmont.

  • I am truly sorry she lost her home as well, however , just one day in PG now can show you the true good in people. The help and support we are seeing is incredible! I only wish that as people we would not wait until a disaster to be truly good-hearted people. I have been amazed and overwhelmed at the response and generosity of people. I hold no anger towards the woman in the video and I am sure that she feels bad enough. I have said things before that I wish I could take back. God Bless.
