A discussion of the panel I moderated at TAM9 this year, titled "The Ethics of Paranormal Investigation." Topics include: Is it acceptable to use deception in the course of unmasking someone else's deception? What do you do when the person claiming paranormal powers is a child? How much do you feel obligated to ensure the confidentiality of the people you're investigating? And do you have any responsibility, as a mentalist or magician, to make sure your audience understands what you're doing isn't real?

  • @Farf420

Ah right, sorry, sarcasm doesn't translate well through text

  • @Chardsie It was sarcasm... clearly guys have told her that before. This is the internet after all.

  • @Farf420

    What a backhanded compliment...

  • Youve probably never heard this before, but youre hot...

  • Awesome, I never knew about Project Alpha. It must have been where Derren Brown got the idea for his special where he convinced many leaders of different paranormal movements that he held certain powers He made very clear that if at any point they ask him if he's deceiving them, he would answer yes. Keep up the great videos!

  • @The1stPoster You're a fucking moron.

  • @yannisguerra "they don't make any clear supernatural statement, only "for fun" or for entertainement statements" Do you have any examples of this? I'm just curious. I don't know that I've ever seen anyone try to debunk a "just for entertainment" type of claim. It's when someone is trying to convinced you it's true and get more money out of it.

As for the other comment, re: the deluded parent talking to their dead child, forcing them to deal with reality is healthier, There is help available.

  • Eight AM? Eight AM?!?! I'm an atheist. I don't get up till noon. Rawr!
