It's true that Gaynor & Martin had a beautiful enduring love affair, both later husbands- Paul Gregory & Dick Halliday both gay. Gaynor's 1st husband was the gay costume designer Adrian- a familiar name on the credits of golden era movies. In fairness to both, you couldn't survive in show business then, much less make it to the top, if you weren't careful about that. Same as now. Martin said something odd at the time of the crash-- how fortunate she was that she had chosen the middle seat!

that was a rumour yes, certainly there were indications that Martin's husband was gay, and who knows .. ? Martin however did recover and did a benefit for the hospital that cared for her , getting into Peter Pan outfit once more and flying over the audience at age 70, helas, do far no video of that...
