The team wanted to get in a trim flight before the contest. The plane ended up in a tree. It turned out that the antenna did not like being routed inside the fuselage, by rotating the plane while doing a radio check the team found that the radio would failsafe at certain angles, so the antenna was rerouted externally. On the second flight the plane entered into a difficult to recover spiral / spin. This was remedied by adding end plates to the horizontal stab (fangs.)Always make sure your design has adequate control volume.
man, that's exactly why here at Wichita State we recommend NOT to go to that field (Beech lake) for flight testing before the competition.
