NYC's premiere Balinese gamelan orchestra performs "Suara Sandi" on gamelan semara dana. Composed by I Nyoman Windha, this piece features mode changes in the pengawak (middle section) as well as an acknowledgment of the older gambuh forms in its melodies. Semara dana is a cross-fertilization of the five-tone gong kebyar style of gamelan with older seven-tone modal techniques and is the vehicle for almost all new experimental composition in Bali today.
That's really amazing.
