In technicallity, for some it does create product awareness and generate them revenue. For the large majority it generates a personal revenue, tickling the ego. The reason all you ever see is scribble, is because thats all you allow yourself to see. They can both be compared because they are both forms of imagery on public space.
In the video, they show awesome drawings. But most tagging I see is scribbling of peoples names. Names on top of other names, on top of other names. The name is usually an alias. And its a battle to put your alias on as much stuff as possible to be seen. For what? so you have the most popular alias? Its different than paid advertising. Advertising is brand promotion to increase revenue. Tagging generates no revenue.... how can the two be compared.
. we just do what we do. if we get caught, fuck it. we pay a fine, some restitution, then do some caltrans. After we hop back on the metro and catch another spot. it's a passion. it's better than joining a gang, getting twacked out on yayo and then shootin that little 4 year old down the street. Are tags, throwies, n pieces do gain revenue but its revenue from the fellow writers. we dont give a flying fuck about the general public. they're just an audience.
Graffiti is acceptable in certain areas. There are parks and areas where graffiti is allowed and supported. These are excellent areas to support your skills. There are vendors, building owners, and corporations that support graffiti. What is not acceptable is tag property that is not yours. Most graffers don't get this concept because they lack any property (ownership). When they do own something, their ideas change.
I had a buddy who got caught tagging, its embarrassing, for his family, his friends, his family friends. That he had to destroy someone else's property for no valid reason. Its the f-heads who use etching paints, chemical paints, or other permanent paints. They don't grasp the concept that a simple pane of glass costs $500.
you're obviously somewhat of an intellectual and I respect that. Regardless of how you feel we are vandals. We're not going to care about people or costs. we're not going to even consider that.we get up. if we get caught, then we learn and go bigger. it's a lifestyle. Ride the wave or get the fuck out the water. We do what we do. If yo homie was embarrased chances are he was a toy. Thats probably the main reason he was caught slippin. It's a war and there's always going to be some casualties.
