This isn't about bi-polar. It's about the extreme folly of society and education systems trying to create artists like cookie cutter products. Van Gogh and all great artists create out of necessity, not from an idea that they'd like to be "artistic'.

cont'd from 1 second ago: under TRUTH - You will reap what you sow and sow what you reap! Jesus' birth is the salvation ("a saviour is BORN in Bethlehem") - his death on the cross is the condemnation (judgement) of those now DEAD who did him the evil then and the LIVING who today crucify him every sunday by sinning (doing evil) in his name and making a mockery of all that he said and represented (all talk no works all works no faith) amen?!?!

cont'd from 1 sec ago: the dread of that unspeakable romance denied him reproductive opportunities - if he had not been so talented he would have suffered the fate of Joan of Arc. Same with Shakespeare: single never married was he????????????you know what i mean. and of course the CHOSEN NO LESS of the adamic race crucified the son of man son of god and now they say that HE died so that they can sin all they please and leave Jesus holding the bag but He liberates from sin and law and puts you

what happened to Van Gogh is typical of the natural behaviour of the white folks (Adamic race) if they will not accept Allah even Jesus...they will INEVITABLY decimate the best of their own kind if left to themselves as per Europa for 5500 years...they drove Van Gogh to madness and suicide...Joan of Arc french patriot burned at the sake because she did not have a dick she behaved like one with a dick not having one - a no-no! (lesbian). same with leonardo Da Vinci was he queer?

@HeartoftheDragonColo You are SO on the money with your comment. Beautifully stated my friend. "He'd piss in their fireplace, he'd drag them through turbulent indigo..." Who else but Joni Mitchell could say it better, with such power and understanding. Joni has a way with words, music and visual depiction that simply defies gravity. The only way I can describe it is that her music creates paintings in your head that last forever. An extraordinary artist of "heart and mind."

This song to me is more about people's view of van Gogh than van Gogh himself. She skewers those rich people who buy is beautiful paintings to show off, when in his lifetime he couldn't sell his paintings to save his life (literally). "The madman hangs in fancy homes; they wouldn't let him near." By the way, the cover painting, by Joni herself, is of herself as van Gogh.

man, the way comments work now is just dumb. Look at the three or four subsequence comments from teh same person -- s/he wasn't stupid, she just couldn't see that the comments were really there because YouTube is making your posted comments look like a preview now. Annoying.
I love this song, I actually love all of this album, great songs and she is a fantastic painter and some of the comments here are absolutely one big ego trip, pretending it to be about G-D and having nothing to do with Joni Mitchell and her music.
