On Jan 12, 2009 at the Detroit Auto Show, the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE announced that Michigan would become the State for the Competition phase with the support of the Michigan Economic Development Corp (MEDC) and the Michigan Intl Speedway. Present at the press announcement were Peter Diamandis, Chairman & CEO, X PRIZE Foundation; Lt. Governor John D. Cherry, State of Michigan; Greg Main, President & CEO, MEDC; Roger Curtis, President, Michigan Intl. Speedway; and Patrick Davis, Program Manager, Vehicle Technologies, Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy, US Dept of Energy.

it's just that you missed out on the most intelligent solutions and only got the mediocre because you failed to realize that dedicated genius is rare but rich dedicated genius is much rarer. not only did you not realize that there should be a competition of ideas first before implementation but you added insult to injury by setting a 10000$ entry fee. not only did we have to give the time and money to make the car we had to pay for travel, living and an entry penalty. you got mediocrity for 10m$
