For the fourth time in the last five years, an Israeli film has been nominated for an Academy Award Oscar. Written and directed by Joseph Cedar, 'Footnote' will compete for Best Foreign Language Film of the Year. It's Cedar's second nomination --- his movie 'Beaufort' about the last days of the Lebanon War got an Oscar nomination in 2008. But this time, Cedar takes us far away from the front lines and into the world of academia where a father and son compete for the same prestigious award.

Footnote has already won many Israeli Film Academy Awards and also Best Screenplay at the Cannes Film Festival. Coincidently, Israel's Footnote will be competing with Iran's 'A Separation' for the Oscar. Separation just won the Golden Globe award for Best Foreign Language Film, and has been nominated for two Oscars. Cedar has met the film's Iranian director and said there's something poetic about their competition. The winners of this years Oscars will be announced on February 26th.

When we asked Nissan, a documentary filmmaker in Tel Aviv, what themes Israel has to offer, he told us, "I think feature films, not documentaries, are still based on reality. And the reality here in Israel is very complicated. And when the reality is so complicated and so strong, the subjects in the films are strong and complicated. I mean you have so many different kinds of religious and different kinds of young generations and old generations and the war inside and the reality builds the feature films in the end."

  • @amirrezarezaie but both nations have evil governments and the only difference is that according to polls majority of israelis want to attack Iran whereas majority of Iranians want nothing but peace.

no hatred or anything but just stating facts..

  • woot woot IRAN :)

when it comes to movies, Iran always touches billions of hearts :) ♥

  • We like Hot Wet Pussy!

  • Sanction hurts Iranian the most at de moment why they dnt lift sanction which is needed the most. they can't import export higher food price lower currency exchange etc. what Oscar Award I'll do dose it reduce all those problem ? Movie are to entertain & pleasure time wasters 'it won't help people whom are suffering from sanction.....

  • @edwardtomas1 the modern day "arabs" are not the enemy. they are the indigenous people of the middle east, the decedents of babylonians, Phoenicians, assyrians, egyptians, canaanites, and sumerians. israel is a piece of shit. And Iran is very close to the arabs of Lebanon, Palestine, and Syria; so keep dreaming...

  • @amirrezarezaie Um no Israel is bad REALLY bad

they like to lie and start wars with other nations in the middle east, God willing we will see a world without Zionism

    Viva Iran
