During the Lunar New Year in South Korea there was a large
wave of public opinion about President Lee Myung-bak's
granddaughter who was spotted wearing a famous brand
of down jacket.
The mainland commentators believe that the incident reflects
South Korea as a true democratic country.
Although Lee was criticized by the his people, the Chinese
Communist Party (CCP) should learn from Korea.
The CCP should let the public and media monitor officials.

During the Lunar New Year holiday this year, the down jacket
of Lee Myung-bak's granddaughter became a hot internet topic.
According to the message of South Korean "Chosun Ilbo",
it was on the first day of vacation, January 21st.
Lee and his wife went to a traditional market together with their
granddaughter.
A white down jacket the granddaughter was wearing attracted
peoples' attention.

The online version of a media reported that this French brand
"Munch Lille" down jacket has a price of 3 million won.
This is the cost for the adult version, equivalent to about RMB
16 thousand.

Subsequently, South Korea's politicians also joined the ranks of
critics of Lee Myung-bak.
Jin Yuzhen, spokesman of Integration Democratic Party, wrote
that Lee brought the civilian population an indellible trauma.

Song Shuyuan, researcher of China's social problems,
said this event sparking intense debate in South Korea.
This just indicates that in a democratic country, the citizens
have the power over supervising the government.

China's social problems researcher Song Shuyuan: "If this
event is important or if it will affect Lee's career....
Everything depends on the survey results but in it itself shows
an expression of public opinion and public participation.
It also shows the use of power, including supervision by public
opinion.
This is very good. A democratic country is displayed by this
reaction of the Korean people. "

Professor Cai Jian, deputy director of "South /North Korea
Research Center, International Studies, Fudan University"
Was of the opinion that some Korean presidents have
emphasized anti-corruption in the system.

Cai Jian: "(South Korea) have done a lot of work on system
Building and developing policy.
This imitates the property reporting system of the Western
civil servants and mandatory reporting.
Unlike China, there are so many gray incomes, outside of
regulatory reach.
When it comes to the issue of combating corruption, our
country may need to learn from South Korea."

Because of his granddaughter's down jacket it brings Lee a
political crisis it seems he had never anticipated.
Hong Kong "Oriental Daily" reported that when looking at
Chinese official class, it's so common to see them
Wearing famous designer watches, driving famous brands of cars
and wearing famous brands of clothes.
But just how many are firmly supervised by the anti-corruption
departments?

Netizen "Huaguuoshan Shuji" in mainland China has always
exposed the wearing famous brand watches by CCP officials.
Among of them, the Minister of Railways Ministry Sheng
Zuguang has worn a Rolex watch of over RMB 70,000.
A director of provincial department of finance wore a diamond
studded Omega, estimated price of over RMB 200,000.
Vice Minister of Railways Lu Dongfu, Vice Health Minister
Yin Li, Vice Minister of Science & Technology Zhang Laiwu
They all worn famous brand watches priced at more than
RMB 40,000 each.
Netizens questioned how the incomes and spending of these
officials don't match but no one is investigated.

Song Shuyuan said that public requirement of disclosing CCP
officials' property and incomes has been unresolved for years.

Song Shuyuan, China's social problems researcher said: "Such
a system, is not for guaranteeing the people's power.
It is being used to protect and cover up the evils of corruption.
Such an event like Lee's granddaughter becomes a hot topic.
There are hot topics almost every day in China. What's the
consequence? China's ultimate issue is institutional. "

Cai Jian also said that, according to Lee's background, he can
totally afford to purchase this down jacket.

According to reports, before becoming President Lee
Myung-bak was a legend in South Korean business community.
He was known as "the myth of wage earners." After over 20
years' effort, he owns property worth over 33 billion won.
This is equivalent to about RMB 270 million.
