The Dan Blocker Experience, recorded at The Preservation Hall, Edinburgh, 1987. Fantastic country band, mixing classic country songs with radical reinterpretations of...things like this. Later on they morphed into The Liberties. I remember Alison MacFarlane (vocals), Richie Henderson (vocals and acoustic guitar), Colin MacFarlane (lead guitar and mandolin), Stuart Nisbet (Pedal Steel), Nico Bruce (bass), but the drummer's name escapes my memory, sorry. Very happy nights listening to them in Negociants and other Edinburgh venues of the day.

  • @AlanMMoore Colin Libertie here. The drummer you're hearing here is Keith Burns; the bass player you're not really hearing is Paul Manson. This was recorded off the desk in preservation Hall. We usually finished with 'Ooh Las Vegas', although 'Clarksville' was usually in the set somewhere. Memories, eh? Who posted this, by the way? His handle suggests an Orcadian connection....

  • I was there! Downstairs in Negociants, drinking Belgian raspberry beer. They always finished with Last Train to Clarksville (it was the Monkees reunion which reminded me..). Thanks for posting.
