John was the best Democratic candidate for President we've had in a long time. And he basically designed the other candidates' policies. I hope Obama takes up Edwards' causes.

Well, the illegitimate child was about to sink his campaign, whatever his policies. It's a very good thing that he wasn't nominated, because the Republicans would have mercilessly torpedoed his campaign and we would be dealing with President McCain today. You have to judge a man by his character as well as his policies. And his conduct and lies during that whole "affair" was reprehensible. But again, his message was good.

He sounds terrible. You can tell from the way he slurs his words that he was haunted by the vision of Rielle Hunter and their illegitimate child. The baby was born only eight weeks after this speech, on February 27, 2008. The whole scandal was about to explode his campaign sky high. Look at Elizabeth behind him and her strained face. She knows. The sooner we Americans forget about John Edwards, the better. But his message was OK.
