@halsasaurus This is great news. I'm really chuffed that Besses are getting back on track. I know from experience what a struggle it is to rebuild a band literally from scratch, but with Dr Newsome in particular lending his vast experience in the rebuild, you can't go wrong, and hopefully, we shall have the name of Besses back up in the higher echelons of the banding world where it belongs.
I look forwards to hearing you on Whit Friday and all the very best for the future.

Besses are out again in two weeks after 3 years of rebuilding from almost scratch. Missing players, instruments and uniforms! Besses is currently ranked 2nd section and is guided by three great middlemen in Dr Roy Newsome, James Holt and Geoff Bradley. We will be playing Knight Templar again. We are looking for contributions from past players, members and supporters to a book celebrating the history of the band over the past 200 years (1815-1892 is already covered)

I see you! sounds v good as well :)

Yeah the march was too difficult but whatever, there's lots worse you hear on whit friday.
Good on them for not just packing it in a few years ago. Negative comments are far too easy to make on the internet for all to see :p
Bands all have their ups and downs, I was in Besses not too many years ago, we had a cracking young band ranked in the top20 and were qualifying for the national finals and the open etc..
keep on parping besses :)
all the best..

and if you are who I think you are, you can hardly talk about helping to keep besses going, didn't you leave? theres commitment for you. where did you go? marsden or some where like that wasn't it? true dedication to the band
-
You're right though, that performance is awful. Why attempt a difficult march like Knight Templar when it's obviously not managable? Accepted that Besses have been rebuilding lately, but god that's bad

Whoa,,Easy Tiger. I refer to the time when Besses was one of the best bands in the country, and I'm sure that with a lot of hard work from dedicated people like yourself, they will get back there again, I have seen bands resurrected from just four players, so I know where you're coming from, but as a player of some 37 years, I stand by my comments on THAT particular performance.

look at Eccles Brass Band Montage
OMG...! That was horrendous.
That ain't the Besses I once knew. What happened..? Bass's sounded like someone tearing linoleum, cornets were crap, the whole thing was rushed and the intonation was terrible.

Gosh - what an intrusive bass. It sounds like a bassoon - not a bass. Spoils the performance somewhat. I really appreciate the videos bannan61 - why aren't there more brass band videos on youtube? Thank you for filling a wide gap.
