In the mid-70s Guy Angrand (My dad) was introduced to several members of Zaiko Langa Langa through a family friend. Through that introduction he became friends with the legendary Congolese guitarist Pepe Felly. Vocalist Gina Wa Gina helped Guy translate his song "Souci Mady" into Lingala and the rest is history (this being one of the first if not THE first songs to ever be recorded in those two languages, kreyol and lingala. Haiti and Congo-Kin have since seen many collaborations in this sense.)
After recording the song with Pepe Felly's newly formed band Les Yatoupas the song was released on a rare record. In recent months a fan of Guy's radio show Tambour d'Afrique (www.tambourdafrique.com) sent him an Mp3 copy of the record which included his song Souci Mady.
I decided to make this video as a tribute showcasing old pics of Guy from his days with his band Diffusion of Springfield Gardens and of course the song Souci Mady. I hope you all love it as much as I do. PEACE!
please visit www.tambourdafrique.com and tune into Tambour d'Afrique every Saturday Night from 10pm - 12am (New York Time)
