Oxytocin causes empathy. Adrenaline destroys oxytocin. That's why you don't feel some emotions while excited.

Find a copy of Robert Frost's "Death of a Hired Man," and read it through aloud. If you can make it to the end without tears, you aren't human.

You're right on - if you are a Mormon member AND have other emotional issues such as abuse or mental illness like bipolar, obsessive compulsive, or ADHD, you are in for a hell of a time. Mormons girls are especially unforgiving to each other - they are like hen chicks who peck the life out of the chick with a tiny spot on it. If you can't look perfect socially, the implication is that you are not good morally either, and then the drive to be perfect can literally drive people insane.

I remember one time when witnessing a Mormon crying another Mormon said
that person has the spirit. Which I guess means the holy spirit is making them cry and being emotional.
