This great piece bears a lot of similarity from the publisher's another title Red Faction. I haven't played Freespace 2. But I still enjoy this a lot.

This is totally my ringtone. I love it.

Very few game battle themes scream EPIC like this one does. Especially the second part. :3

Sorry mate but ShadowGirliee is correct here. The source code was released, yes, but that does not make the game itself freely available.
-
@wjrneo2 No, you're missunderstanding it.
The Source code does not equal the game.
The Game is still owned by Interplay.
Volition doesnt and never had the rights to Freespace 2, they only produced it , the rights to Freespace 2 are with Interplay, therefore Volition was never able to make Freespace 2 "FreeWare", cause that is what you seem to be thinking it is.
Hence, the game aint free, its still 5 bucks at good old games, and you still have to buy it.

No, Volition released the source code, as in the game along with all its missions and music is available for use. They even converted FS1 to be playable in FS Open. You can buy FS2 if you want, but the entire game is free content now.

@wjrneo2 releasing the sourcecode doesnt make it free.
Interplay still owns the rights to Freespace 2.
If it was free you'd the game as download on some sites, just like you can find mechwarrior 4 now.

Volition released the source code for freespace 2, hence the game is free now. Google Freespace Open or FSOpen, heck, search youtube for it. Tons of videos out there, they even show up as related to this video on my screen.

Blame interplay, they flopped up and stopped all advertising for it, so that their inferior star trek game would make a quick buck instead.
Idiots.
This is one of the best themes from the game. Thanks for posting this priceless piece of gaming audio history.

Nope, thats wrong, so totaly wrong.
The game still belongs to Interplay. You still need to buy it.
You confused something there,
The source code is free, its allowed to play mods that only need the source code(like the wing commander project) if you dont have FS2.
The thing you arent allowed to do, is selling a game that you made with the FS2 SourceCode.
Thats how it is.
