In late August, 2009, I climbed Brunelleschi"s Dome of the Duomo Cathedral in Florence, Italy. With video and selected still photos, I give an orientation of the Cathedral and trace my steps up to the top of the dome. With video and stills I describe the spectacular view from the top. Video and photos taken with a Canon 5D Mark II at standard resolution.
From an art history professor hunting for "eye witness" accounts I can use in class: my gratitude to you for your well narrated, well informed, and well photographed video!

This is a wonderful video that anyone who can't make the climb should see. i made the climb twice when I was young and would love to do it again but I don't think I can. It was a struggle then and now it could be fatal (heart problems you know) but I really would love to do it!

What a great video. You can see the incline of the brick work on the outer shield take on more and more steep angle as you go up at 5:06, 5:30, and 6:10. You also got some great shots of the herringbone brick pattern at 5:31 and 6:04. Thanks.
"Oh no, I climbed the wrong dome" Ha Ha Ha
I like the book, too. But I wish it had more graphics in the book. Sometimes I find it hard to visualize what's described in the book.
Any other recommendation on books on Italy? With focus on RomeandFlorence

A work that would cause the envy of many professionals. I've been there twice and hope to go again! Many thanks for this upload.

Great video. I went to Florence in June of '09 and climbing Il Duomo was one of the first things we did. This brings back great memories.

Thank you for your posting. I am taking three kids and my husband to Florence and want to climb the dome. I'm an architect and always like to find unusual spaces. I was worried it might be scary but it just seems tiring. I like your commentary too!
