The only effect in 2001 I would want to improve is where the camera is moving along with Frank/Gary as he jogs. Looks like he's running uphill when it's behind and running downhill when it's in front of him - mainly because he was! You need to have Frank running right at the bottom of the centrifuge, which is where the moving camera was, to avoid this look.

Some actual spacecraft concepts such as crewed mars missions such as BNTR spin the entire ship length wise during cruise turning the entire vessel into one big centrifuge.

Though it wouldn't be as obvious as this in side such a ship.

Also they really built that centrifuge for the movie 2001 though the camera was moving with the centrifuge while the guy stayed near the ground.

The end result was one very convincing effect.
