  • The British 6th Airborne Division was to link up with 30 Corp after 48 hours. They held on for 11 days. This is the reason why all Airborne Forces today wear Red Caps for the "Red Devils".

  • Thanks for the comment but I must point out it was the 1st Airbourne Division not the 6th.

  • @bronorman001 Whats with Americans and thinking that they are soo amazing...Mate it was 2 Panzer divisions...and to be honest i find it offensive that you say such stuff...no wonder so many people hate americans....you only have to come on youtube to really start getting aggressive......We lost 7000 men at Arnhem.....Saying oh the american airborne would of won just angers me. Smarten yourself up. Para's don't die they regroup in hell. Every man an emperor.

  • RESPECT to our British para's at Arnhem....

  • Montgomery's failure in an otherwise glorious career showed how fatal ego can become. It also showed British penchant to put one over the Americans at bravery. Nevertheless, had it succeeded, the war would definitely have ended earlier. The misfortunes of the British para had an ominous message. Perhaps they should have brought the 101st and 82nd at Arnhem where the British 1st Airborne and the Poles were and swapped places. It'd take an American unit to do the task or the British SAS.

No problemo at all; I'm glad I could help to give specifics on your important point. Memories of soldiers who suffered in wars should not be forgotten by those who casually dismiss them in favour of propagating myths about who actually fought in wars. Same thing with African and Indian troops in WW2 getting no mention for their sacrifices fighting in all fronts in WW2 - same with women who fought as combatants, Partisans, and were spies, test pilots, munitions workers, etc etc

  • @PanakaStigLitz much appreciated was just getting a point across all deserve recognition :)

  • @rokerlad49

Exactly! SS did slaughter many POWs from all nations. Only on freak occasions did they show 'humanity'.

Some had a fondness to Brits, but others massacred them- like in 1940; at Le Paradis and Wourmhoudt.
