We were invited to attend a goat stew feast at a local goat farmer's house up in the hills just a few miles from the village. The farm actually had several houses on it, but the goat feast was held at the main house. It was a lovely adobe structure with an outdoor kitchen, wash area (pila), and gardens. A very well-respected old vacarro (cowboy) was invited, and he stopped by and sat talking with the circle of men. He was very tall and soft spoken, and I was told he had been ranching cattle for seventy years in the hills surrounding the village, before any roads to the area existed.

  • Yes it is in right near Pomaro, I was living in Maruata at the time right next door to Sherry and Warren's school bus! They invited me to come to Maruata in 2009 when I was preparing to move to Mexico. They were so sweet and generous to me, helped me get acclimated since I spoke very little Spanish at the time. I lived there in one of the thatched huts right next to their bus. I still live in Mexico but I've moved to Ajijic now, on Lake Chapapa<:}

  • Cool video. Is this in Pomaro, or just up the river from Maruata? Sounds like Sherry Tice explaining the kitchen set-up!
