Man things are crazy - India is using TV to keep people from having sex, Thailand is giving artificial legs to elephants? And Sony files a patent for Playstation S&M?
First up, in India, there's a bit of an overpopulation problem. Well... Actually, it's fucking crazy. It's so bad, in fact, that on this years World Population Day - yeah, I never heard of it either -- Indias minister of health and welfare came up with a possible solution to take care of Indias exploding population. Spongebob.
Well... Not really Spongebob but TV in general -- although nothing makes me lose the urge to merge like a funny episode of Spongebob. Dora the explorer, on the other hand, is an entirely different story, but that's a whole other episode.
Anyway, so people in India are fucking too much, and making too many babies, and the solution is to get electricity into smaller Indian villages which are currently without power, so that they can run TVs and have something *else* to do at night before they go to sleep.
It's not just that there are too many people, over population taxes already limited water supplies, the people use up whatever little electricity is available, and have a very negative environmental impact -- so it's in all of our best interest if these villages get reruns of Law & Order, pronto. I mean really who can fuck while watching that?
Up next, what do you get when the elephant you're putting to work in a logging camp steps on a land mine? No, not elephant burgers for weeks, you get an elephant that has to have its leg amputated.
After the accident, the elephant was fitted with a temporary prosthetic but now she's out strutting around on the permanent one created by the prostheses foundation, which obviously also makes replacement limbs for humans.
They had to put Motola, that's her name, Motola... Anyway, they had to put her under anesthesia for the operation - and it took enough for 70 people - and got her into the 2000 Guinness Book of World Records.
It's amazing that they could do any of this, since it took all sorts of physical therapy to get her leg strong enough to use with a prosthetic limb. I mean, it's a friggin elephant - but she's starting to walk around more and more on it and should be pretty much back to normal in no time.
In other news, Sony has patented the first Playstation S&M device. Well ok, not really... It's actually a method for detecting laughter while someone is watching a program. It's not clear if Sony ever fully developed the technology or what they plan on doing with it, but Andrew Yoon from Joystiq came up with the possibility that they could detect if someone's frustrated with a game, and make it easier, if they're bored, they can make it harder, on so on. Interesting, but the patent application shows some serious issues with the guys in the graphics department.
Thats it for this episode, thanks for watching and reading along!!!
