Nepal Human Rights Defenders Speak Out Two Years After The Constituent Assembly Elections
About this Film
April 2008 saw Nepalese coming to the polls for the Constituent Assembly elections. The elections came after the end of the ten-year conflict and the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2006 between the Maoists and the other political parties. In May 2008 Nepal was declared a Federal Democratic Republic and the king was deposed.
Two years after these historical events, the situation for human rights defenders remains difficult. In a country where to date no one has been prosecuted for major human rights abuses, 7 human rights defenders look back at the past two years and suggest what needs to happen for Nepal to move forward.
Total running time of this film is 14 minutes, and there are translated versions included in French, German, and Spanish.
