I wouldn't say America. But I remember hearing stories of how in New York, in the neighborhoods he would frequent, people would leave their doors unlocked to their cars parked on the side of the streets and even their homes. Simply because any two bit thug or junkie would know better than to mess around in those areas. Name me one town in which the police alone have that much influence and are that discouraging to punks.
