Transgender Issues Forum - February 2011
Transgendered persons have undoubtedly been with us since the very beginning of human civilization yet the modern transgender-awareness movement dates only to the 1970s. Still, a decade into the 21st century, for many people, understanding transgender issues can be difficult. It's no wonder. Most of us have been raised in traditional societal structures where gender, gender identity and sexual preference were, and predominantly still are, defined by normative gender roles. This forum is designed to illuminate the "T" in LGBT.
This interactive panel discussion feature three experts on transgender issues led by Dr. Carol Waymack, a Seattle physician and transgender educator and Ms. Tami Lazzaro, a member of our own congregation who will share her personal experiences as a trans-woman.
Thank you for the time effort and dedication in producing this video. I t was made with great insight and empathy for those of us who do take this path in life. We experience many rejections, many misunderstandings and considerable personal hardship in this quest. To acheive acceptance from our family and close friends and society is all we crave and to take our place in the gender expression we believe we live.
