Edgar Cayce and the Association
for Research and Enlightenment
(from Encyclopedia of Cults and New Religions, Harvest House, 1999)
INFO AT A GLANCE
Name: The Association for Research and Enlightenment (ARE) was founded in 1931 to
preserve, research and disseminate the psychic work of Edgar Cayce.
Founder: Edgar Cayce (1877-1945).
Source of authority: The trance readings of Edgar Cayces alleged unconscious mind.
These are often claimed to have originated from the akashic records, purportedly a
storehouse of universal knowledge which many occultists cite as a source of inspiration.
Claim: The revelations of Edgar Cayce represent one of the most significant psychic phenomena
of our time.
Occult dynamics: Spiritistic revelations and various occult practices, e.g., astrology.
Key literature: The Circulating Files (only ARE members can obtain the nearly 400 topically
arranged transcripts of the Cayce Trance readings); the ARE Journal and Newsletter;
New Millennium Journal; Venture Inward magazines; A Search for God (2 Vols.); The
Edgar Cayce Library (topically organized volumes of the Cayce readings—e.g., Vol. 6 is
The Early Christian Epoch); and the multi-volume Individual Reference File. These last
two are continually expanding.
Attitude toward Christianity: Rejecting.
Quote:
Q. How should we present the [Edgar Cayce] work to one in orthodox faith?
A. ... If they are satisfied in their own mire, or their own vomit, then do not disturb. (Edgar
Cayce Reading 254-87).
DOCTRINAL SUMMARY
God: A pantheistic, impersonal force.
Jesus: A man who attained Christ consciousness.
(The) Christ: A state of higher (occult) consciousness.
Trinity: Reinterpreted as e.g., Time, Space and Patience.
Man: Part of God.
Fall: The fall occurred in heaven, not on the earth, and man fell into matter, not sin. Matter
and spirit are opposed to one another. When preexisting spirits fell into matter they
lost their spiritual understanding and awareness of their divinity.
Sin: Error (e.g., not recognizing or appropriating ones deity). Sin is more a defect in
awareness than violation of a moral standard.
Salvation: Salvation is through knowledge, not faith, and involves the attainment of higher
consciousness and realization of ones divinity.
Satan: A symbol of evil.
Second coming: The subjective experience within each person of the internal coming of
the Christ
Bible: One of many holy books, interpreted symbolically.
Death: A spiritual advancement
Heaven and Hell: Inward states of consciousness or good or bad experiences in life.

  • Paul said it best "if anyone comes to you preaching another Jesus than the one we have preached to you, recieve them not"

  • the untainted gnostic doctrines agree wih cayce ore than the edited texts

  • This guy is an excellent interviewer! I've learned so much more about Edgar Cayce from the good questions the interviewer asked.

  • "It's widely known the early church taught reincarnation..."

    Baloney. Poppycock. Rubbish. Birdcage lining.

Hebrews 9:27: "...it's appointed unto men once to die, and after this the judgment."

  • It's widely known the early church taught reincarnation, it's in the bible still to this day even after much was removed. Elijah was John the baptist.... In a letter to one of the churches Jesus says if certain things are done they would no longer have to go in and out of the kingdom if god, etc.

  • As far as I have read and am able to understand there is nothing in Cayce's readings that contradicts the Bible. If there is anything contradictory, it is between Cayce and some doctrines of the church which unfortunately happen to contradict some of the teachings in the Bible.

  • Who is to say that the bible was interpretered correctly ? Christ warns that words shouldn't be changed, was he warning humanity that the words could be changed ? The history of the written bible is that scholars, hundreds of years A.C. writing down what they had been taught ....Have you played the game where one person passages a message in a circle and at the end the message is completely different .....? And what about the political pressure of the time's Monarchy impacting the recordings ?

  • I was wondering the same thing. In revalation, it talks about the anti christ as having the powers to heal the sick. not only that, but it says 'and he shall deceive many, if it were possible, even the elect chosen by god.' says somethin like that. well, wasn't edgar cayce able to heal the sick? don't get me wrong, i'm not saying he was the anti christ... just saying, what if that was the case?

  • the God of the OT is the father Jesus speaks of being 1 with so why did God command some of the things in the OT? to bring about the seed of David (Jesus) the Israelites would have been wiped out if they did not act destroying Gods Word (prophecies of Jesus) also there were hybrids 1/2 angel 1/2 humans (nephilim)

  • I don't know how that's possible. The Bible says that God is transcendent relying on nothing, the Creator of the universe, able to control the seen and unseen realms, perfectly just, merciful, loving, and holy. There's nothing that I can think of that could be any bigger than that.
