This event was designed specifically as an opportunity for Managers and/or staff delivering Employment, Careers Information, Advice and Guidance and Enterprise support services in Tyne & Wear to gain more knowledge of the specific and additional barriers facing refugees in the labour market, from the perspective of refugees themselves and from the experience of specialist employment support agencies/projects to share your own practical experience of delivering support to share learning from practical examples of what has worked to share ideas and recommendations on what could work, and how change could be achieved
The dialogue will involve some of our members, including young refugees, and staff from specialist agencies who have already been delivering support to refugees, and who have contributed their expert knowledge to 'Skilled' research The North of England Refugee Service's RIES Project JET (Jobs, Education & Training) BME Employment Access Project, Sunderland BME Network
And representatives from BECON Employment and Careers, Information, Advice & Guidance services Enterprise support services Employers
The event a 'Big Conversation' and was run by an independent facilitator, so that everyone can take an equal part in it. It will not involve presentations. Findings from the workshop will be written up and circulated to all attending so that you can share ideas with colleagues. The RRF does not itself deliver services; its role is to inform evidence based policy and practice. Its Skilled Project will seek to use the recommendations to help promote policy and practice to support the economic integration of refugees in the region.
