This video proves something that I found when using a hotplate with a Marshall JCM 800 - the hotplate produces a very bright fizzy sound that the 'underdriven' natural sound of the amp doesnt give... I am glad I had a chance to use it, and decided that the 300+ price tag isnt worth it. The hotplate changes the tone of your amp, and just because it produces more distortion, doesn't mean it is a better tone!

120 tube watts is way too much for home. That is very loud. I have had 50, 30 watt tube amps, and struggle to keep my neighbors from calling cops. I got blue Hot Plate for my AC30 and is much better now. Even my 5 watt and 18 watt tube amps are really loud. I use a Dr.Z BrakeLit with them. It pushes the tubes for a more warm natural sound.

@uomoscozzese Do you mean the post phase inverter master volume PPIMV
Isn't it true that, if you have a "Master Volume" and an "Input Volume" .......you DON'T need an Attenuator? (Assuming no pedals in the chain).

@nutmegger1957 that was kinda the idea for a master volume but it still isn't quite as good as a loud amp, i think for low volume playing with gain a good quality overdrive pedal to push the valves does the trick and is alot cheaper than a hotplate

@uomoscozzese do you reckon you could show us low volume wth an OD pedal just to see how it sounds?

@Schpudd sorry i no longer have the jsx or the hotplate, i found a solution for better tone and better low volume tones. i use a marshall jvm 210h which has an emulated output which i connect to my hifi and it sounds great for low volumes, thanks
