That pipe is whats known as exhaust vent. When they are back they place the end of the pipe over the exhaust so when they go on a call, theyre truck does not pollute the station. The pipe is held on by a magnet. Some of the newer ones actually are air actuated and detach when the pipe hits a switch. These older style like this one has a magnet. When the truck goes out the pipe gets "ripped" off the truck because the magnetic force can no longer handle the stretch... Hope this helps!
