  • I'm working on improving my video quality.

  • When you get into a discussion of blade steels, it's kind of like discussing how many angels will fit on the head of a pin. Personally, a major consideration beyond the type of steel is the hardening process. You can ruin an excellent blade steel if it's heat treated improperly. You can also find good quality blades made from "okay" steel. Also, how you use the blade is critical. Carving, chopping, skinning, deboning??? Different steels can work better for different applications.

  • So you have a video on how to sharpen knives ?

What do you think is better, the sharpmaker (30 / 40 degree)or Lansky Crock Sticks sharpener (20/30 Degree?)To be used around house for house kitchen knives, Survival knives and Swiss Amy Knife ?

How about on the GO to carry in your back Pack as far as Size and Weight and ease of use in a wood, etc ?

  • Honestly, I don't use the sharpeners. I use a stone and have put together my own sharpener for field use which consists of a couple of small DMT stones on a paint stirring stick and a leather strop on the back. I'll try to put up a short video in the next couple days to show you. Simple to put together and EVERYONE should learn how to use a stone. The commercial kits are too cumbersome and if you learn how to use a stone... you can easily substitute a rock in a pinch.

  • @urkingod It depends if you want a durable edge for hard use (30/40) or a finer edge (20/30) for slicing, peeling, etc. One of my favorite knives for my BOB is a tried and true Swiss Army Knife. In a pinch, it'll do the job.

  • I am new to knifes, but would like to keep one around the house in case of emergency / survival. What kind is the ULTIMATE to get ?? Right now, i am thinking of Fallkniven S1, and SOG seal pup Elite series. But I just start doing some research on knives. Any recommendation please ?

  • I use an A1 but to answer your question, I'd prefer the S1. The AUS8 Elite blade is a good blade but I think the VG10 takes a "sharper" edge. I also prefer the blade profile of the S1 over the SP Elites. Finally, the handle of the S1 seems more comfortable in my hand. I used an Elite for a summer and it's nice, but I still prefer the Fallkniven series. Both are excellent in their own way and I think your looking at two great choices!

  • I have the Fallkniven F1. Superb knife. Anything it can't handle, gets the ax treatment.

  • Nice review - you deserve an upgrade to 480p video quality though. Staring at the pixels to somehow squeeze out more detail reminded me of my adolescent days.

  • I own a Fallkniven U2, F1, S1, A1, and an ESEE 4 and 5. My favorite of all these blades is the Fallkniven A1. It's the perfect weight for just about all tasks, and it has a really nice length to it. When I first got it I thought it was a little heavy, but u get used to it quickly and then smaller knives seem weightless! It chops well when needed, and it slices quite well for how thick and long it is. My second favorite knife would be the Fallkniven F1. The U2 is a great EDC pocket knife, too.

  • Outstanding and informative video. Thank you for taking the time to make it. There are so many bad videos to sift through when looking for 1st hand info on these knives. Which are a small investment in regard to cost.

  • Those knifes are useless, too short for chopping and too thick for cutting properly. The thickness would put a shit load of resistance through your cutting medium.

  • i couldnt decide lol so i bought an idun and a bravo 1 ss with ironwood handle hahaha oops :D

  • Hello, I have the F1 knife in black finish with leather sheath. Out of the box, the edge was very sharp. Now, over a year since I purchased it, I still can not get the F1's convex edge back to sharp condition; I know it's not the knife's fault, and has to do with my skill and experience (lack of)in blade sharpening. To possible buyers of this knife: if you are not a good sharpener, do not buy this knife, get a carbon steel knife instead!

  • The F1 was designed for the Swedish air force, made by Fällkniven in Boden Sweden. I have a F1 and a S1 and they are both the best knifes I have used.

The F1 is 15 years and been used every week since I bought it, it is a true workhorse!

  • You forgot to mention that if your mostly in wet environments you will choose the fallkniven cause most barkies have carbon steal not all but most thats why i have both for just camping or in wet environments i dont like dealing with oils and what not

  • @tsaknives I think the S1 is the perfect all-around compromise knife. It sucks as a small knife for whittling and carving, and it pretty much sucks as a medium sized chopper. :D Can it do both if pressed into survival duty? YES, and that's why it's the perfect compromise. If I had to take one single knife into the woods for survival, it would probably be an S1. If I could also bring a pocket chainsaw with me, that'd be even better, but not absolutely necessary. I love my A1 for bigger duties.
