@oldnwsguy Sad really.

Something that seems to have been lost in TV news over the past 30 years or so is diction. Listen to Jerry Anderson's precise and correct delivery. He even pronounces the letter W properly. The kids anchoring and reporting today don't sound like this anymore.

It is what it is. Viewers have turned to other sources for news (or tuned out altogether), leading to declining ratings and cuts in station overhead. Or, turning it around, when stations make cuts in overhead that leads to declining ratings (because of fewer resources to cover stories) thereby resulting in a drop in viewers. It is a "chicken and egg" conundrum.

Jerry was (and, at WTOL, is) a consummate pro. I'll pass on your compliment if you do not mind.
In 1984 WTVG's anchors all had extensive prior experience. Now talent are generally immediately thrust on the air at WTVG (and in larger markets) with little opportunity for seasoning.
