  • Una delle più belle, poetiche e sruggenti scene di tutta la storia del cinema. La musica poi è sublime.

  • Yes, I do concur that this is by far the most beautiful existential scene in the history of cinema. Could never watch it with dry eyes. The (oldest) daughter leading the ballet is the diseased mother of the old and dying writer Luigi Pirandello. He visits his parent's house at Sicily where he reminisces with the ghost of his mother. Dreading his impending death he begs her to tell him again a crucial story from her childhood, conquering death itself by remembering and being remembered.

  • telefonami

  • Saw the movie again after more than 20 years and this scene remains impressive. Back then I did not know the music is from Mozart's Figaro, that is unrivaled in expressing despair and grief (the chamber maid sings about a lost hair pin which plays an important role in the plot and is scared about the anger of her boss).

  • sempre sulla Felicità e la Leggerezza....anzi sulla Leggerezza e la Felicità

  • To me too this is beyond doubt the most beautifull, imaginative and poetic scene in cinema ever. The music, sounds and images are just elegant. Actually the whole "colloquio con la madre" part of the movie I think is exceptional. The story, told with a combination of narrative, images and sounds is just mysterious and beautifull.

  • Una delle scene più belle e poetiche del cinema mondiale. Perché in Italia non si fanno più film così???

  • ah! SICILIA mia...!

  • one most poetic scene in the story of cinema
