If you move to about 5:10 you can see where I cut the audio up into approximately 5 second bits...first with the smaller strings, then bigger. I should've done the video this way to begin with!

I wanted to know how much does string size really change the sound of a guitar. So, I tried a little experiment. I kept the amp, camera, all else exactly the same, except the strings.

I used rotosound guitar strings because they are my favorites. The sound awesome, feel great, don't break easily, come with an extra high E string, and aren't real expensive.

I switch from a hybrid 10 (roto blues) to a 12 gauge (roto purples). The 10's were old and the bass strings were starting to sound a little mushy. So there's some difference there...the low strings are the same gauge, so the difference is age.

The high strings though, there is an incredible difference. One thing though, to hit pinch harmonics is not as easy as it was with the smaller strings! DOH! Maybe that'll change once I fix the intonation.

Playing on an Epiphone Les Paul with Bare Knuckle Punch pickups through a THD Univalve, no effects pedals used.
