On December 14, 1986, Jeana Yeager and Dick Rutan stepped into history by becoming the first to circumnavigate the world non-stop and non-refueled in the Voyager aircraft. Their flight was one of the last great firsts of aviation history. The song is an original composition written by Elmo Alexander and DJ Cox specifically for the Voyager flight.

  • This team, the first to circle the globe non-stop by air, and this video - the only one on youtube - has seen exactly 746 views? I don't get it. What the Rutans and Yeager pulled off - privately conceived, paid for, and executed, is nothing short of extraordinary. Consider: neither NASA, the military, nor huge corporations had accomplished this feat or even dreamt of it. Burt Rutan is a visionary, all the more proof of which exists today with his space venture with Richard Branson

  • wish there was a documentary on this

  • burt rutan also designed space ship one, the first commercial spaceship

  • Who did the subtitles? Do you speak english?

  • I'm glad someone took the time to post that on youtube. For a takeoff with 3.500 journalist to look at, I thought I would have found more videos.

Rutan is one of the greatest genius engineer we need in aviation!

(My grandfather built 3 varyeze and actually had dinner with Jeana Yeager and Dick Rutan few months after their flight in the house I'm sitting in right now, in Belgium... I wish I would have been there!)

  • I would sweep floors, take out the trash, clean the bathrooms, cut the grass, get everyone coffee, clean the offices....whatever it would take just to get my foot in the door at RAF/Scaled Composites and work my way up to test Pilot!!!! Just to go work in that enviroment each day....Wow!

  • the voyager is in a museum. i think that one was a model Because i saw the excat airplane on google earth. the conspiracy starts :p

  • @007SPIDER007 There actually was one, but I can't remember the name.

  • 0:48 - 0:57 Do I get this right? The chase plane was taking off at the same time on the same runway? Isn't that awfully risky??

  • I can't believe that there aren't more views or comments for this clip. The thing that the Rutans' didn't do well was "Sell or Advertise or Promote" their sensational works. With the right 'PR' their popularity would have soared as well as all their Aircraft. I've been a Rutan fan for decades and will continue to be... Excellent job, great stuff!! lat'r Buzz
