On the past days of October 1 and 2, the IEEE Portugal Section organized the 2nd IEEE Portugal Student Branch Congress (PSBC). The event was held in Lisbon hosted by the IEEE IST Student Branch. The key aim of this event is to bring together student volunteers from all over the country, and enable them to exchange experiences and improve their activities in partnership with other branches. In the end, it turned out to be much more than that: the PSBC 2011 was a gathering of students ready to work towards the same goal of promoting engineering, IEEE, and their importance for a better future.
Participants got to know Lisbon, received volunteer training, and attended an invited technical talk on mobile robotics by the RAS Portugal Chapter Vice-Chair, Prof. Pedro Lima. During the awards dinner, the recently established Portugal Section student awards were given: the Universidade Nova de Lisboa Student Branch received this year's Outstanding Student Branch Award, and Jorge Soares received the Outstanding Student Volunteer Award.
With 30 people involved, this Congress was a success and a great contribution to the future organisation of better and more worthwhile IEEE events in Portugal.
