My iMac has a video problem! Be sure to watch the whole video to see both clips. One before I sent it in for diognostics, and the other after I got it back from West World.

An nVidia GeForce 8800 GS card is very expensive. I'm pretty sure it's about $500 just for the card. But I think i will get it replaced cause its only $500 when this iMac was originally over $2000!

  • Hi, i'm from Spain, and i have the seme problem as you, when i turn my imac 24" on the screen goes like your imac, and then after 30seconds goes crazy.

I have the same model with tha same graphic card, and i want to know if you have changed the graphic card, or which was the solutions for this problem.

    Thanks!

  • @Mitchsoyyo Hi, yes I did get the video card replaced. Twice for me since the 1st replacement failed in 5 days, so I got another card for no charge. So far mines working fine!

  • @RandomActsCorp Wow, i have been reading on the internet things like that, 8800gs failing after been reparired. I dont have applecare nor warranty, so i dont know what to do, apple support offer me a new 8800gs just for 400€, and i dont know if i can trust again in this videocard...

  • @Mitchsoyyo Hey! I'm on my 3rd card now, couple of hours of use gave me lines! Going to call Apple in a few days!!!

  • that imac not have a problem,it have BROKEN SCREEN!

  • @78Boza The lines and distortions had nothing to do with the screen. It was the video card that had failed

  • @Mitchsoyyo that's because there is another problem...a faulty heat sensor that reads the wrong temperature in yuor imac and the fans don't cool as they should causing the graphics card to overheat.

  • I reckon it likes to redecorate

  • Hi to all who has those kind of troubles with the graphics on any iMac. I have experience in these matters. I do fix these issues - 2 on 3 !!!

  • Your Logic Board is dead. You could get that repaired for $299. Check ebay to find the needed info.

  • @RINGO4LIFE not that i'm doubting you (actually fear you are right), but why do you say this? this just happened to my imac a few hours ago. i still have applecare so it should be covered, but i really hate having to lug this thing in on the subway if i don't have to.

  • @78Boza this just happened to mine a few hours ago. was on the phone, i turn around and the screen is flashing crazy lines and it crashes. i restart and i get the same lines (exact same vertical orientation although different coloring) and kernel panic. i know it isn't the screen because i use dual monitors and they were both flashing the exact same pattern. my first thought was video card, thankfully i have applecare.
