I find Robert's partial answer to Kate about who would be hurt illustrative of his character: he omitted Robin, the paramount reason for his fierce protectiveness of Anna from the threat of Faison. Loyalty to his child and her mother defined him.

The whole problem with Robert is hes never stop loving Anna, He just couldn't forgive her for betraying him causing him to lie for her and causing another man to die for him protecting her. It really wasn't till after Sean confessed that Robert actually started to forgive her for everything including the betrayal. Bottom line Faison forced Anna to work for him after they got married he did destroy there marriage and Robert deep down thinks him and Anna would of lasted forever.
