René, Clinton, Rachel (7) and Sarah (3)
René and Clinton didn't know anything about cerebral palsy until their eldest daughter Rachel was diagnosed. 'But it's something we've learned to live with', says René. 'It is hard work looking after a child with severe cerebral palsy, but it's very rewarding because of who Rachel is.' In spite of the fact that Rachel can't walk or talk, she and her little sister Sarah get up to all kinds of mischief. 'Sarah constantly makes sure Rachel is included', says Clinton. 'Cerebral palsy can either destroy you as a family or make you stronger. And it has made us stronger.'
