The WideTag Social Energy Meter on Italian national broadcast news RAI3 TG3.
"In Milan, a contest among new startups. The one conserving the most, wins!
This is SEM, which stands for Social Energy Meter. It is among the new projects of environmental technology, and it won an award at the Milan Polytechnic.
An internet-connected lamp, which changes color and measures in real time the energy consumption of a user at home or in the office. For example, if turning on a hairdryer turns the lamp blue, the consumption is in the average. But if the light becomes red, it means that the bill is going to be higher too.
It all works thanks to a suite of hardware and software integrated with sensors
which measure the consumption.
The users of SEM are connected to a social network a reference group with the same characteristics, families, singles, businesses. Thanks to the network it is possible to confront ones consumption with those of others, exchange tips on conservation, and acquire new behavior modes in energy use."
