www.blackmagicrecords.nl for Little Smokey Smothers is one of the unsung Chicago South Side blues
stalwarts, a respected musician who never found the national or
international spotlight, but has made terrific, soulful blues in his
hometown for fifty years. This is a sizzling and long-overdue debut
album by the veteran Chicago bluesman, whose approach is considerably
more contemporary than that of his late older brother. Producer Dick
Shurman recruited vocalist Lee Shot Williams (Smokey„s cousin) and Elvin
Bishop (who Smokey tutored during the early „60s) for this project, a
fine showcase for Smothers„s hearty vocals and expressive guitar. He is
fighting health issues as of this writing.

  • Chicago blues guitarist and vocalist Albert Abraham "Little Smokey"

Smothers, 71, died on November 20, 2010. Smothers recorded multiple albums

and accompanied other famed blues men and women on records and in live

performance. He was also known as a mentor to younger musicians, including

Paul Butterfield and Elvin Bishop of the popular and influential 1960s blues

crossover group The Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Smothers died at Little

Company of Mary Hospital in Chicago of natural causes.

  • Sorry to hear Little Smokey passed last year. He was a cool cat with a great spirit. Got to meet him and play a few songs with him at Buddy Guys, Ledgends club back in 2000. He told me "I was pretty good for a nail bender".Long live Mr. Smothers!
