One of Eubie Blake's early proteges was the incredible stride player Luckey Roberts. We have included on Youtube several of the Luckey Roberts tunes that Jim learned directly from Eubie.
In addition to being one of the innovators of stride piano, Roberts enjoyed careers as a Society Band leader, nightclub owner, and song writer/ composer. Although short of stature, Luckey had a 14 note finger span and could play piano figures that for others were physically impossible.
This tune dates from his Tin Pan Alley days in the early 1920's. For many years we have done this song as a piano/vocal feature in our shows, concerts and clubs. For this recording session we decided to see how it would work out as a piano solo.
