  • @Ljungman42 Consumers distributing is gone too don't forget

  • Yeah, I miss Woolco...when I was a kid, my Parents would give me like $20 to shop for Xmas gifts for everyone...and I used to go there because they had these little tea candles in small Chinese boxes...

...although I'm not entirely sure that my Mom ever did like those, she always claimed that she did! LOL

Woolco in Canada held on a lot longer than it did in the US...but for Walmart buying them up to convert them, they might still be here.

Now Target is doing that with Zellers!

  • Woolco is gone but Sears, the Bay, ect are still around? WTF happened to this world?

  • if price is just the beginning, surely going out of business was the ending.

  • Now does anyone remember the Kresge's at Yorkdale in Toronto? Complete with lunch counter. Unimaginable now when malls drive out anything not to do with fashion.

  • @tvlondon I think you're right. I never went there much but if it has those escalators I'm sure it was a Woolco too.

  • @secordman What about Scarborough Town Centre? I noticed the Wal-Mart there had one of those escalators but I wasn't sure if it was ever a Woolco.

  • @sarahyehudit Two of the three Woolco stores in St. John's had elevators. The one that didn't was the one at the Avalon Mall, now a Sears (which ironically relocated from The Village in 2005).

  • Three locations in St. John's, NL (my birthplace) I went to: Avalon Mall, Village Shopping Centre, and Water Street (which I now consider to be the best of the three). Wal-Mart bought the Avalon Mall and Village locations, only to move them to big box crap. I don't like Wal-Mart anymore.

  • Sure a blast from the past! I remember the Woolco in Towne & Country mall at Yonge and Steeles (now Centerpoint mall) and the stairless escalators right in the middle of the store. I shopped with my Mom there all the time. Thanks for posting this. Great memories! :)
