One of six pieces that Beethoven composed for Mandolin and Harpsichord. Only four have been discovered. On this recording, Michelle (Rewoldt) Is accompanying me on piano.

  • I notice that some mandolinist use the tremolo on sustained notes when playing Beethoven works for Mandolin and Harpsichord/Piano?

  • @Reggae1942. I experimented with the tremolo on this piece, but felt that it took away from the natural sustain of the instrument. But, some of my decisions were based not only on musical taste, but also stylistic appropriateness. Tremelo on the mandolin was highly developed during the Romantic and late Romantic period, but not so much during the Classical. An argument could easily be made either way. thanks for listening and your comment.

  • A beautiful piece... if only the sound quality were better. So sorry.

  • @soulfulady Agreed! I was in a hurry, unfortunately, to finish recording for an audition in London. That went well, but I was definintely left with wanting to have a do-over on this one. On a positive note, I got this piece on one take! thank you for your comment.

  • where is the Harpsichord i kan only se and hear a piano ???

  • @anton2sager The title includes "Harpsichord" however in the manuscript, there was the option to use pianoforte instead. My apologies for upsetting and misleading you. Hope that you enjoyed the piece regardless of the false advertising. thanks for listening.

  • @michaelscottmandolin Yes I agree with the other user.. I was expecting a harpsichord... there is still time to change the title. Also, my opinion on this piece is that, because of the presence of the mandolin, a harpsichord is more than appropriate to use for this. The piano does not to well as company for the mandolin. The harpsichord, on the other hand, is another plucked string instrument, like the mandolin. It would be nice to hear a true version of the piece.

  • @anton2sager Whist originally scored for harpsichord it would have easily made the side step to the Forte-piano, an invention by harpsichord maker Bartolomeo Cristofori. This compare to the harpsicohrds of the day would have had at least one or two more octaves to play on

  • very nice 5*
