'would you celebrate the birth of the someone who sacrificed himself if that was your choice'

Paul - are you aware of Leonard Peikoff's essay 'Commercialize Christmas'? If not go check it I think if you google it it's at capmag. It goes over how Christmas has little to do with Christ but instead was the invention of New York businessmen looking to make a buck.

  • HI PortfolioManager1987:

I recall reading a piece on Christmas. What I remember from it was that it should be celebrated not as the birth of an alleged supernatural being, but as a commercial event and testament to man's productivity and benevolence.

Because Christians hold cite Jesus as the most sacrificial entity and celebrate his birth and death because, they say, "he died for our sins", I make reference to holidays the that celebrate him and his sacrificial nature....

  • In doing so, I was not condemning Christmas ornaments, shopping for gifts, trading gifts with loved ones, getting together for turkey/ham/eggnog etc. I'll be chopping down a Christmas tree this year, and stuffing presents beneath it for the children, etc.

But I'll be celebrating reason in a way that focusses ON man, reason, and rational productivity, on Reason's Harvest. Yes, one works and buys things every day, but Reason's Harvest is intended to help us remember what makes it all possible.

  • "If we consume 86% and we leave 14% for the rest of the planet, how do you think that makes them feel?"

    Answer: Who gives a shit.

If you don't produce, you don't consume.

  • *cont* And other times I wonder if it's worth it because they teach me a lot of trash at the university (I learn economics. Today the professor taught us it might be right to take 10,000$ from a rich man and give it to an African because the African would enjoy it more. ...) and I try really hard sorting out the gems of knowledge from the Communism but sometimes I find myself wondering if it's worth it. So thanks for your encouraging words.

  • A Canadian living and working in London tipped me off about this video on Nov 5th...

I like the idea, but my question is

Who's the gorgeous babe who appears at around 2 min?

  • Christmas should be more commercial by Leonard Peikoff, got the name wrong*

  • What a great idea! I will be celebrating with a bottle of water!

  • I'll be celebrating... but I just about celebrate Reason's Harvest almost every day. ;)

  • I might just take you up on that!
