http://www.coziggy.com - In this this tutorial Michael from CoZiggy unveils the hidden process of tracking your Facebook activity WITHOUT visiting Facebook! This includes monitoring your friends' status updates, posts, notes, and notifications. This will allow you to more easily track keyword mentions from your central RSS reader or social media dashboard, although unfortunately you cannot generate RSS feeds for specific keyword monitoring with Facebook (hopefully this changes soon). Still, using this little trick should reduce most of the clutter you're now bombarded with on the FB news feed.

Thanks to jwz at http://jwz.livejournal.com/1144527.html for figuring out this nifty trick.

  • Nice job Michael...Near the end of the tutorial, you mentioned how nice it would be to be able to filter the facebook feeds for certain keywords or brand names. A tool called Yahoo Pipes actually allows you to do just that and more. You can use Yahoo pipes to aggregate (merge) the 4 feeds into one and then filter the data for certain keywords. The resulting feed is now only posts that include your keywords. Plug that into a reader and you're set!

  • @brodydorland thanks for the tip Brody, and sorry for the long delay. I'll take a look at Yahoo pipes and post a tutorial once I get some extra time!

  • do you know how to turn off recent activities.. facebook changes all the time and the info online is already old.. thanks!

  • @yeshualivingword they're going through a lot of changes with this right now. Right now you can only select from "top news" - what FB thinks is most important among your connections - or "most recent" - viewing every update your connections make. Expect more options in the near future though.
