"Darling Friend" is a lap steel infused re-interpretation of Ludwig Von Beethoven's "Fur Elise." The video is a surreal, NYC, Dia De Los Muertos homage directed by Vaj Potenza (My Brightest Diamond's "Freak Out Gold Chains Remix") and choreographed by Suzanne Rydz. Darling Friend is the second single off Neil's covers EP, Songsmiths. Produced by long time steel collaborator Mike 'Slo-Mo' Brenner (Slo-Mo, ex-of Marah, Jason Molina, and The Low Road), it features unique, low-fi arrangements to the Small Faces "All or Nothing," Laptop's "I'm So Happy You Failed," and "Mia" by Chris Malcarney of the Philadelphia power pop band, The Donuts. The lead single is Neil's folky version of ELO's "Do Ya," featured on Showtime's Californication and on the Season 2 Soundtrack alongside Sheryl Crow, Warren Zevon, and Nick Cave.

I loved the song before I saw the video, and now I love the video, too. I sang this song to my 'darling friend' of 20 years, and I plan to sing it to my dark angel friend when I see him again...the video processing and effects are cool in this video, and Neil Nathan looks great.
