A short lesson on how to grow decorative moss for use on Bonsai trees, where to harvest it, and how to keep it, place it and use it. The video features a Chinese Elm, a Satsuki Azalea, and a Pyracantha bonsai to show harvesting and display techniques. For more bonsai info, books, tools and supplies, http://www.kuromatsubonsai.com
Great informative video, thank you very much. I'm very new to all this so a video like this is great for beginners like myself.
Question though, I have a juniper "na na" it's about 2 feet tall and the pot dimensions are 5"x9"x3". Would it be okay to place moss on this particular plant though it is smaller in size of the one you have. I'm looking to keep it on the plant.

@codlover713 its due to the acid in the milk. moss loves it

a cool little tip is to wipe your moss with milk to make it much more green i use this technique before i enter a plant into a show

@fyaglidere Who are you? It's not like people consciously choose to speak in monotone. That's like saying "your eye are brown, but I liked your video anyway"

@triotrees - Moss reproduces by spreading and by spores (not true seeds). The key is fining moss that grows in full sun. We have quite a bit of it! Moss likes humidity but not to be wet.

@triotrees - On gathering moss: as the video says, most use it for exhibition only. If you carefully monitor the tree/soil, you CAN grow moss under the bonsai. Moss that grows in full sunlight is the only kind that will survive long-term with bonsai. Answers to your other questions can be found in your library, online, and on YT. Good luck and have fun!

ok thanks, secondly, ive gone out to the forest and found a good patch of moss. I gently removed it and placed it on the soil of my bonsai. I dont think i did it right because the moss died and it didnt help at all. Im very new at this and i would really appriciate it if you could answer these quick questions:
1. When should i repot it, ive recently gotten a Jappenese Juniper and im not sure at what time and with what soil,
2. What do i use to prune
if you have anything else tell me!!!
thanks
